AEO & GEO services: become a source AI answers cite

More searches now end in an AI answer instead of a list of links. AEO (answer engine optimization) and GEO (generative engine optimization) make sure that when Google's AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini answer a question in your field, your pages are ones they can find, understand and quote.

In short

AEO and GEO are the work of getting your brand and pages used as sources in AI-generated answers. AI search tools retrieve pages from a search index, then quote the passages that answer the question most clearly. So the work has three parts: make sure the right crawlers can reach your pages, rewrite key pages so each answer is clear and self-contained, and earn mentions on trusted sites these tools already draw from. Nobody can guarantee a citation, but you can make your pages the easiest ones to cite.

Included

What AEO and GEO work includes

Crawler access check

Your robots.txt, CDN and firewall settings are checked so search crawlers such as Googlebot, Bingbot, OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot can reach your pages. Training crawlers (GPTBot, Google-Extended, ClaudeBot) are a separate choice, and you decide on those.

Prompt and citation audit

Real questions your customers ask are run through AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini to see who gets cited today, and why.

Answer-first rewrites

Key pages get question-led headings with a direct 40–60 word answer under each, followed by the detail, sources and examples.

Entity and schema clean-up

Consistent business, person and service details across your site and profiles, with Organization, Person, Service and Article structured data that matches the page.

Mentions on trusted sites

AI answers lean on sources that many sites reference. Guest posts and outreach on relevant, well-read sites build those mentions. This is where AEO meets link building.

Tracking over time

The same prompt set is re-checked each month, alongside AI referral visits in GA4 (chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai and others) and Search Console data.

How AI answers choose their sources

Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode are built on Google Search: Google says a page has to be indexed and eligible to show with a snippet before it can appear as a supporting link. ChatGPT search and Perplexity run their own crawlers and use search partners. In each case the pattern is similar: retrieve pages that match the question, then quote the passages that answer it most directly.

Two things follow. Your page has to be retrievable (crawlable, indexed and relevant to the question) and quotable (a clear, self-contained answer from a source the reader can trust, backed by evidence).

What AEO and GEO can't promise

AI answers change with the wording of the question, the user's location and history, and model updates. No one controls which sources a model cites, so any service that guarantees placement in ChatGPT or AI Overviews is overselling. What you can control is whether your pages are the clearest and most trusted option, and whether the results are tracked honestly.

A note on llms.txt

llms.txt is a proposed file that summarizes a site for AI tools. It's cheap to add (this site has one), but Google has said it doesn't use it, and no major AI search tool has confirmed relying on it. Treat it as optional housekeeping, not a ranking lever.

FAQ

Questions about AEO & GEO

What is the difference between AEO, GEO and SEO?

SEO gets your pages ranking in search results. AEO (answer engine optimization) focuses on being the direct answer: featured snippets, voice answers and AI Overviews. GEO (generative engine optimization) focuses on being cited by generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini. They overlap heavily: the same crawlable, clear, trusted pages win in all three.

Can you guarantee my brand will appear in ChatGPT or AI Overviews?

No, and be wary of anyone who does. AI answers vary by prompt, user and model version. The work improves your odds and is measured against a fixed set of prompts over time.

How do you measure AEO and GEO results?

With a fixed set of prompts re-checked across AI tools, referral visits from AI tools in GA4, and Search Console. Google counts clicks and impressions from AI Overviews and AI Mode inside your normal Search Console web search data, so they're tracked alongside regular search.

Do backlinks and guest posts help with AI search?

Yes, indirectly. AI search tools retrieve pages from search indexes that still weigh links, and they tend to cite brands that are mentioned across trusted sites. Relevant guest posts help with both.

Should I block AI crawlers?

Blocking search crawlers such as OAI-SearchBot or PerplexityBot can keep you out of those tools' answers. Blocking training crawlers such as GPTBot or Google-Extended doesn't remove you from Google Search or AI Overviews. It's a business decision, and the audit sets out the trade-offs for your site.
